In the fantasy drama Teen Wolf, a teenage boy wishes that he could be something special. He gets more than he wished for when he's bitten by a werewolf. Now, navigating the social hierarchy of high school is even more difficult. Now he has to worry about turning into a ravenous monster, too. High schooler Scott McCall becomes a werewolf himself when he is bitten by an alpha werewolf. He becomes strong, and his senses become supernaturally keen. Unfortunately, he also develops a ravenous hunger for prey. He has to learn how to balance his superpowers, his scary hunger, and the day to day challenges of his ordinary adolescent life. His powers come in handy when he discovers that his small California town is a magnet for other supernatural threats. Scott has to use his powers to protect his family, friends, and neighbors. The MTV series is loosely based on the premise of the 1985 film of the same name. That film starred Michael J. Fox as the werewolf and was primarily a comedy. This new series version is more of a typical teen drama. The series has no plot connection to the original film, but it does make some passing allusions to the film. The series debuted to mixed reviews from critics. Some critics praised the performance of star Tyler Posey. Other critics noted that Teen Wolf compared favorably to the generally low quality of other MTV series. The sixth and final season of the series aired in 2017.
